for people who rebuilt their life from scratch

You re-examined everything. Except one question.

Country, language, job, paperwork, life plans. All rebuilt in the last couple of years. Friends living out of suitcases, parents on video calls, someone you buried over the phone. And one question, closed around age twenty without review, still sits in the backlog: does any of this mean anything. This site proposes reopening the ticket. Not with faith. With a protocol.

This site is one person's private initiative. It is not an official resource of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Every link goes to a primary source so you check the original, not a retelling.

README

What this is, and what it is not

01

No one here asks you to feel anything. Only to read and to test.

02

No money changes hands. No fees, no donation to enter, no paid course.

03

No government stands behind this site. None.

04

You can close the tab at any step. Nothing breaks, nobody calls.

05

The author is an IT person from the former USSR who moved to the US. He knows what "neither here nor there" feels like, and he ran this experiment on himself before proposing it to you.

people

Loneliness is not cured alone

The letters from emigrants all say the same thing: "every new friend was living out of a suitcase", "nobody here understands me", "neither here nor there". That is not a character flaw. It is the absence of structure: back home it came from school, university, work, the courtyard. In a new country the structure has to come from somewhere. A congregation of this Church is a ready-made structure that already exists in almost any city in the world, and this is what it gives.

01

Friends who are not living out of a suitcase

People who see you every week, know you and your kids by name, and will notice if you disappear. In the first week.

02

Work

A congregation is a live network of engineers, doctors and business owners where a referral goes straight to the person who hires. Many found their first job in a new country exactly this way, without sending a résumé into a black hole.

03

Belonging that no immigration office can revoke

Membership does not depend on a visa, a residence permit or a passport. Move to another city or another country: the congregation is already there, same kind of people, same rules. A "permanent tourist" outside, one of their own inside.

04

A way to help

The fastest way out of the "black hole in your chest" is carrying someone else's boxes. In a congregation everyone is given something to do: help with a move, visit the sick, teach children, fix someone's computer. You are needed again, not only in need.

05

Family beyond the passport

When your parents have not spoken to you since 2022, your grandmother was buried without you, and your brother is in a third country, you need people who count you as their own. Here that is not a metaphor: a congregation literally calls itself a family and acts like one.

06

A place for the kids, a language for you

Programs for children and teenagers where nobody asks where they are from. And Sunday meetings in the local language are free language practice every week, with Russian speakers nearby in case something is unclear.

None of this requires being a member: the doors are open to anyone who walks in. But the depth of the ties grows with participation. The one who serves gets more than the one who sits in the back row. Easy to verify: come on a Sunday, sit, leave when you like. Nobody will chase you.

hypothesis

The universe looks like a project

This is not a proof. It is five open questions that physics and mathematics have not closed. Each one can be dismissed on its own. Together they make "who built this" a legitimate engineering question rather than a naive one.

question 1status: open

Fine-tuning of the constants

Around two dozen fundamental constants are not derived from any theory. They just are what they are. Shift the cosmological constant by one part in 10¹²⁰ and stars never form. Strengthen the strong force by a few percent and no hydrogen remains. The multiverse explains it, but is itself unobserved.

Rees, Just Six Numbers (1999) · Barnes, Publ. Astron. Soc. Australia (2012)
question 2status: open

The code in DNA

A four-letter alphabet, triplet encoding of twenty amino acids, redundancy, error correction during replication. This is not a metaphor: biologists literally use the words "code", "transcription", "translation". In all our experience, a code has an author. It is an argument from analogy, and it is contested. But it is on the table.

Yockey, Information Theory, Evolution, and the Origin of Life (2005)
question 3status: open

The hard problem of consciousness

A complete map of every neuron and every signal would explain what the brain does. It does not explain why there is "something it is like" to be you. No physical theory yet derives a subject from matter. You, the one reading this line, remain an unexplained remainder.

Chalmers, Facing Up to the Problem of Consciousness (1995)
question 4status: open

Gödel's theorems

Any sufficiently rich consistent formal system contains true statements that cannot be proven inside it. This is a rigorous result, and it is not about God. But it closes the idea that "everything can be derived from inside the system". Truth has an outside source by construction.

Gödel, 1931 · Nagel & Newman, Gödel's Proof
question 5status: open

The simulation argument

If even one civilization lives long enough to simulate minds, simulated minds outnumber original ones, and statistically you are probably one of them. This is a thesis from Oxford, not from a church, and people who write code discuss it in earnest. Notice that it brings a Creator in through the back door: someone started the process.

Bostrom, Philosophical Quarterly (2003)

None of these proves God. You can argue with every one of them, and you should. The question is different: if the door is not locked, why have you never looked inside?

specification

A model you have probably never heard

What we grew up calling "religion" usually looked like this: creation from nothing, miracles against the laws, faith instead of knowledge. Below is a different model. Read it as a spec: look for contradictions, ask questions.

Claim What it means to an engineer Source
Matter was not created from nothing. It is eternal. No "magic from the void". Conservation laws are conserved.D&C 93:33
Human intelligence was not created and cannot be.You are not a by-product of chemistry. You are a primitive.D&C 93:29
God operates by law, not against it.A miracle is an API you do not know, not physics switched off.D&C 130:20–21
"The glory of God is intelligence."Ignorance is not a virtue. Learning is part of the design.D&C 93:36
Knowledge gained here stays with a person after death.Nothing learned is zeroed out. State persists.D&C 130:18–19
The goal is not rest but endless progression. Not a final state. Versioning with no last release.D&C 93:19–20

This is the cosmology of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Yes, the one we used to call "the Mormons". If that word triggered a reflex, finish reading first, then decide.

protocol

A 30-day experiment

Around 74 BC by the book's own chronology, a preacher described a method we would now call a self-test: don't believe it, test it. He compared an idea to a seed. Plant it, don't throw it out early, watch whether it swells. Here is that method rewritten as a procedure.

If you have been through therapy or a twelve-step program, the instrument will feel familiar: the same daily practice of self-observation with a journal. Only the object of observation is different.

01

Hypothesis

H₀: this is fiction, and nothing will happen in 30 days. H₁: something is there, and it answers when approached honestly.

02

Setup

The Book of Mormon in Russian or English: free, online, no sign-up. A notebook or the notes app on your phone. 15 minutes a day.

03

Procedure

One chapter a day, from the first page. Read Alma 32 first, out of order: it is the description of the method itself. After reading, spend two minutes, aloud or silently, formulating a request: "If you are there, I want to know. Is this true?" Then write down what you noticed. Even if it is "nothing".

04

Observation

Do not watch for a voice from the sky. Watch for side effects: clarity, calm, a wish to do something good, a thought that came from somewhere else. The text calls this "the seed swelling". That is signal, not noise.

05

Decision

Day 30: read your whole log. Reject H₀ or keep it. Only you decide, and nobody sees it but you.

One limitation, stated plainly: the experiment is not clean, since you are both the subject and the instrument. Every study of consciousness has this shape. Rejecting such data entirely means rejecting all of psychology, not just this book.

side quest

Your roots are data someone deleted

Wars, relocations, purges, burned archives. For most families from the former USSR the record stops at the great-grandparents. FamilySearch is the largest genealogical database in the world: free, ad-free, with digitized parish registers from the Russian Empire. The same Church maintains it, at its own expense, for everyone. If you want to understand why, you are already on the right path. Meanwhile, notice this: it is the one part of your identity that no immigration office can revoke.

the hard questions

What you will google anyway

Better you hear it here than find it yourself and decide it was hidden from you.

Is it a cult?

Judge by data, not by a word. About 17 million members in 170+ countries, fewer than half in the US. No paid local clergy: the bishop of a congregation is an engineer, a doctor or a driver who serves unpaid after work. You can leave with one letter. Nobody isolates you from your family; the family is the central value. Back home, "sect" was pinned on anything that was not the state church. Check whether it fits on the merits.

Polygamy?

Practiced by a portion of members from the 1840s to 1890, then officially ended. Today it is grounds for excommunication. Groups practicing it now are not part of the Church. A detailed historical essay is published by the Church itself on its official site; it does not hide the uncomfortable facts.

Money?

Members voluntarily pay tithing, 10% of income. Nobody checks and nobody sends an invoice. While you are just investigating, not a single dollar is asked of you: books, classes, meetings are free. The Church charges nothing for baptism, marriage or funerals.

Church and state?

The Church endorses no parties or candidates in any country, receives no state funding and is the state church nowhere. Its headquarters are in the US, but it is no more an American church than Linux is a Finnish operating system.

Why this, and not Orthodoxy or nothing at all?

Nothing stops you from testing Orthodoxy too. But this model offers what others do not: a specific testable text (the Book of Mormon), a specific test protocol (Alma 32) and a specific promise of an answer (Moroni 10:4–5). That is a falsifiable claim. An engineer values falsifiability over tradition.

What will be required of me?

Thirty days of fifteen minutes. Nobody will show up uninvited, call you or add you to a group chat.

contact

Made it to the end? Write

In your city there are people who know what this is like. If the first step toward them feels scarier than an email to a stranger, start with the email. The author will help find a congregation, Russian speakers nearby, or simply answer the question you have never asked anyone.

A question, an objection, or just "I reached day 30 and here is what happened": write to the author. A person answers, not a bot.

Write right here
